Green energy at the CajaGranada Cultural Centre thanks to a new solar power plant developed by Cuerva

The photovoltaic self-supply facility developed by Cuerva is aligned with the Sustainable Development Objectives and enables us to considerably reduce the CO2 emissions of this flagship cultural centre.

This new initiative prevents emission of 101 tons of carbon dioxide per year, the equivalent of 2,200 adult trees or a forest with an area of 5,000 m2.

CajaGranada Fundación has launched a new solar plant located on the roof of the CajaGranada Cultural Centre in the city of Granada. The photovoltaic self-supply facility developed by Cuerva, a company that provides services across the entire energy value chain, is aligned with the Sustainable Development Objectives and enables us to considerably reduce the CO2 emissions of this emblematic cultural centre.

With its production capacity of 260 kWh, the plant provides 40% of the energy needs of the entire centre. 

The new facility thus avoids emission of 101 tons of carbon dioxide per year, the equivalent of 2,200 adult trees or a forest with an area of 5,000 m2.

The new solar plant at the CajaGranada Cultural Centre was presented at a press conference by the President of CajaGranada Fundación, María Elena Martín-Vivaldi Caballero, the CEO of Cuerva, Ignacio Cuerva Valdivia and the Regional Government of Andalusia’ delegate for the Economy, Finance, European Funds, Industrial Policy and Energy in Granada, Gumersindo Carlos Fernández Casas.

The Delegate for Sustainability, the Environment and Blue Economy of the Junta de Andalucía in Granada, Manuel Francisco García Delgado and the Managing Director of CajaGranada Fundación, Fernando Bueno López-Viota also attended the presentation.

María Elena Martín-Vivaldi’s speech highlighted the fact that “implementation of this initiative in the fight against climate change is a moral obligation for CajaGranada Fundación, an organisation that has contributed so much and is determined to continue contributing to Granada and society in general. This is a state-of-the-art power generation facility in a modern building that enhances its aesthetic aspects even more and that will also enable us to show and teach students and citizens in general what a photovoltaic plant is, how it works and all the benefits it brings to the planet”.

Ignacio Cuerva started his speech by “thanking CajaGranada Fundación for placing its trust in our company to develop this project that provides the Cultural Centre with green energy to carry out its activities. Moreover, being able to show children and young people this new way of perceiving energy and its consumption within this paradigmatic shift that we are experiencing towards clean, renewable energy sources is of vital importance”.

Gumersindo Fernández also emphasised“the importance of this kind of initiatives that move in the right direction to make the world a more sustainable place for all” and went on to say: “the Andalusian Energy Agency is working tirelessly to decarbonise our region’s economy by means of numerous action lines and incentives. The plant presented today by CajaGranada Fundación is a shining example of projects that must continue to be implemented if we are to save the planet.“

The new solar plant consists of 467 high-performance solar modules that enable self-supply without surpluses, all of which adds up to an annual production of 389,538 kWh of green energy. The next-gen technology used in the facility also enables 24/7 monitoring of the consumption curve.  

Thus CajaGranada Fundación takes another step towards its goal of achieving the highest energy efficiency possible and reducing carbon dioxide emissions in all its facilities and activities. Cuerva is also proud to add the CajaGranada Fundación success story to its portfolio, proving once again that it is possible to change the way we consume and generate energy in a more accessible, sustainable and transparent manner by harnessing the experience and know-how of the energy sector.
