The Granada-based energy company will host GEODE’s Spring Seminar at its new institutional headquarters in the city centre, coinciding with the Association’s 35th anniversary

Leading public and private sector stakeholders are expected to attend to discuss the future of Europe’s electricity grid, with regulation, investment and technology at the forefront

Granada, 10/04/2026. Next Thursday, 16 April, Cuerva will bring together around a hundred “stakeholders” from the European small-scale electricity distribution sector in Granada for the “Spring Seminar” organised by GEODE, the European association representing these companies. This is a key annual event, regarded as one of the main European forums for reflection on the future of energy distribution, and this year it takes place amidst widespread uncertainty regarding the global energy market as a result of the war in the Middle East.

The energy company’s new headquarters in Plaza de Isabel La Católica is finalising preparations to welcome around a hundred representatives from companies and public and private organisations from seven countries.

A European forum to address the challenges of electricity distribution

Under the title “Building Tomorrow’s Grid: How Digitalisation and Flexibility Shape DSO Remuneration”, the seminar will address some of the key challenges facing the European energy system, in a context defined by the transition towards more decentralised, decarbonised and digitalised models.

Throughout the day, from 9:00 to 17:00, participants will discuss critical issues for the development of electricity networks in Europe. Key topics include enabling digital investments through appropriate remuneration frameworks, the role of flexibility in system operations, and the application of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence in planning, operations and cybersecurity.

In addition, GEODE—celebrating its 35th anniversary this year— will use the occasion to highlight over three decades of representing local energy distributors across Europe and its contribution to building a more sustainable and resilient energy system.

The event will bring together representatives from European institutions, regulatory bodies and energy companies, creating a space for dialogue aimed at building consensus on the strategic role of distribution system operators in the energy transition.

Confirmed speakers include prominent figures from both institutional and energy sectors, such as GEODE President Hans Kreisel; DSO Entity President Vincenzo Ranieri; and senior representatives from national and European institutions.
Among them are Jorge Paradela, Regional Minister for Industry, Energy and Mining of the Andalusian Government; Miguel Rodrigo, Director of IDAE; Cristina Lobillo, Director for Energy Security and International Relations at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER); and Josep Salas, Board Member of Spain’s National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC). The institutional opening will also feature the Mayor of Granada, Marifrán Carazo.

Cuerva, a key player in driving the transformation of the electricity system

As host company and GEODE member, Cuerva reinforces its role as an active contributor to the transformation of the future energy system, as well as its commitment to regional development and sector knowledge generation.

“Over two days in Granada, discussions will focus on the future of electricity distribution networks in Europe: their digitalisation, how their deployment should be promoted, and their essential role in challenges such as the energy transition and territorial cohesion,” said Ignacio Cuerva, CEO of the company. “We are facing a particularly timely debate in a context marked by geopolitical uncertainty. Planning Europe’s energy future requires a shared vision and coordinated action among all stakeholders,” he added.

A new headquarters in the heart of Granada as the event venue

The seminar will take place at Cuerva’s new institutional headquarters, located in the emblematic Plaza de Isabel la Católica. Conceived as a boutique office in the city centre, the space is designed to become a meeting point for clients, partners and key players in the energy ecosystem.

Designed as a true smart building, the headquarters integrates advanced technologies for efficient space management, including intelligent lighting, environmental monitoring, high-efficiency climate control and full connectivity.

The opening of these offices marks the company’s return to Granada’s historic centre, complementing its main facilities in Churriana de la Vega and reflecting a strategic evolution aimed at strengthening its institutional presence and corporate positioning, initiated with the renewal of its brand identity in late 2021.

An event combining energy debate and international projection

The seminar programme will be complemented by cultural activities designed to foster networking among participants and position Granada as an international destination. These include a visit to the Alhambra and a welcome dinner on the eve of the event, as well as cultural and social activities following the main session.

The participation of high-level representatives from European institutions, regulatory bodies and public administrations, alongside executives and technical experts from the energy sector, ensures a high-level programme and a multidisciplinary perspective on the challenges facing the energy system.

For Cuerva, “hosting this event is both a challenge and, above all, a source of pride. It allows us to contribute to positioning Granada as a venue for high-level European debate, aligned with our commitment to our environment and to the sustainable development of our region.”
