The energy company supports this initiative, as a prelude to the Biennial, in the projection of flamenco ‘for its unique, millennial and identity value’ of Granada's culture within the Granada European City of Culture 2031 candidacy.
‘Granada es Flamenco 365’, a series of concerts, conferences, films and events featuring local artists, to be held from 14 to 22 September 2024.
Granada. 19/08/2024. Ignacio Cuerva, CEO of Cuerva and the Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Culture, Juan Ramón Ferreira, have announced the content of the agreement signed between the Granada City Council and Cuerva, through which this company from Granada will collaborate in the financing of various projects that enable the development of cultural activities related to the celebration of ‘Granada is Flamenco 365’.
Ferreira recalled that this activity is the prelude to La Bienal de Flamenco Granada 2025, promoted by the Ayuntamiento de Granada in collaboration with the Consejería de Cultura, Turismo y Deporte de la Junta de Andalucía, which kicks off this autumn with flamenco stars in emblematic monuments of the city.
Programme and featured artists
‘Granada es flamenco 365' will be held from 14 to 22 September with concerts, conferences, films and events featuring local artists, especially those linked to the Albaicín and Sacromonte, in emblematic locations of the city such as the Palacio de los Córdoba, the Abadía del Sacromonte and the Mirador de San Nicolás.
This event will highlight the artistic wealth of the city and will feature the participation of outstanding local artists, including the inaugural show entitled ‘Morente’, which will be given by Estrella, Soleá and Kiki Morente on 14 September.
Side activities
In addition to the concerts, the cycle includes a Flamenco Film Festival in collaboration with the Peña La Platería, an event with which the Granada energy company also collaborates, and a series of colloquium conferences at the Palacio de los Condes de Gabia, where different aspects of flamenco will be explored.
Strengthening flamenco in Granada
Cuerva, with its firm commitment to supporting culture and the arts, joins this initiative to strengthen the flamenco sector in Granada, celebrate its rich tradition, and push the Nasrid city to become European Capital of Culture in 2031, which is also part of the city's candidacy.
‘We feel deeply connected to the energy that emanates from the culture and art of flamenco. We are honoured to be part of this project that celebrates one of the most authentic cultural expressions of our land,’ said Ignacio Cuerva, CEO of Cuerva. ‘Our growth is intrinsically linked to the cultural and social transformation and development of our community, and it is through initiatives like this one that we can really make a difference’.
This collaboration underscores its commitment to promoting cultural events that enrich the community and preserve traditions. With this initiative, Cuerva continues its mission to support activities that foster Andalusian cultural identity and heritage.
In addition to the Consejería de Cultura and the Instituto Andaluz del Flamenco, this initiative has the collaboration of the Fundación Caixa and Cervezas Alhambra. Both representatives highlight the importance of the collaboration between public and private initiatives, as ‘an essential alliance to advance in the promotion of current artists capable of putting on stage proposals of enormous quality and artistic value that come to strengthen the cultural industry of our city’.
Ferreira invited the people of Granada to enjoy these shows and thanked Cuerva for his collaboration in this cultural initiative that reinforces Granada's position as a reference point for Spanish flamenco.
